scienceRELATIONS’ two main players are DIRK HANS and HANNES SCHLENDER. Both hold diplomas in biology and science journalism, and have been working in the field of science communications for around 20 years.

In their scienceRELATIONS work, DIRK HANS and HANNES SCHLENDER draw on a collective wealth of experience as professional science journalists and as former heads of communications departments of renowned research institutes and universities. Based in Hannover and Berlin, they support scientific institutions in Germany and abroad, which they often visit in person.

Sich ergänzende Kompetenzen

Dirk Hans’ core competences are in the audio-visual domain: Having worked long as an author for the “Quarks & Co” editorial team of WDR Fernsehen, he has a trained eye for science stories. He is an expert in strategic alignment of brands and in the appealing design of web pages, photo galleries and video productions. He teaches ‘Science Marketing’ at the University of Oldenburg.

Hannes Schlender Hannes Schlender is first and foremost a writer: When writing stories, for all media, he is in his element. In his mind, this material only comes to full effect when embedded in a convincing communication strategy. Developing these strategies is therefore crucial part of his work. Hannes Schlender furthermore offers coaching in science communication for managers.

The scienceRELATIONS team is made up exclusively of natural scientists who are also trained science journalists. Together, they support the breadth of scientific communication by institutes of the Leibniz Association, the Max Planck Society, the Helmholtz Association, and a number of different universities and government agencies both at home and abroad.
